Contemporary dance class
The class begins with a fluid combination of yoga poses to quickly and securely heat the dancer's body. Yoga is one of the best and most effective cross-training methods for dancers to see improvement in strength, flexibility, and balance in their dancing. The yoga poses that will be covered are designed to naturally realign the dancer's body. Over the years Grazia has developed a personal body conditioning work for dancers focused on muscle strengthening, improved flexibility, alignment and stability of joints, and healing of injuries.
After the warm-up, we recover stillness and students are asked to read their body in a standing position. They are going to connect their body with the space and the energy of others, forming an interconnection by just standing. From this condition of stillness, they are going to run, forward backward and around, creating a traject in the space.
The heart of the class focuses mainly on the dancer’s relationship with the floor. Grazia uses simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and energy release throughout the body in order to activate the relationship between the center and the joints. This training helps the dancers into the floor and out of the floor.
